These photos are of soil from 191 countries, and were taken on an Edge 3-D microscope. Each images is a constructed from a stack of images taken at different focus levels. The magnification is 125 times actual size. Much of the sample is composed of quartz sand mixed with other minerals, salts and clumps of micro-organisms.
