| Who
ever heard of an artist's "study" covering
196 sq ft?
Who ever thought of a United 38
Nations?
And,
anyway, what would a Jackson Pollock or plein-air "study"
be?
But
Gary, knowing well that day that Rome was not built
in, and eager to begin, has completed the first study
for his Common Ground Project 191. Only 1/14th the size
of the planned work and created from the soils of only
38 of the total 191 nations, the creation of this maquette
larger than the "David" has already taught
him at least one thing: he can't kneel on the ground
that long!
Monumental
works of art are few, and learning the techniques for
creating them is a torturous task not mentored in art
school.
